Discussion:
Class SErver 4 and SQL Server 2005

Hi,

Does anyone know if Class Server 4.0 is compatible with SQL Server 2005? We
actually upgraded our SQL cluster from 2000 to 2005 and forget to check Class
Server 4 compatibility beforehand (checked all other apps but clean missed
Class Server 4). It seems to be running OK, but every now and again we see
some Class Server 1000 and 1002 errors followed sometimes by Sharepoint
errors where w3wp.exe application fails.

We are trying to determine what is causing the fault - SQL 2005 is the only
answer we have so far.

We have tested Class Server 4.0 with SQL Server 2005 and have not found any
problems. If you can post more detail about when you see the errors and what
specific error messages you get, I can search our database and see what I
come up with.

Hi David,

The two Class Server errors that we saw were:

Event 1000 - Microsoft Class Server - Unable to access database Schoolname:
AbbotsleighSS Message: Thread was being aborted.

FOLLOWED BY

Event ID 1002 - Microsoft Class Server - A Web Part encountered an
unexpected error. Additional information:
Microsoft.ClassServer.CSData.DatabaseConnectionFailedException: Database
connection failed: Thread was being aborted.
Product error: CL1009 (DatabaseConnectionFailed)
at
Microsoft.ClassServer.CSData.SchoolDatabaseConnection..ctor(SchoolRegistrySettings settings)
at Microsoft.ClassServer.CSData.School.OpenDatabaseConnection()
at Microsoft.ClassServer.CSData.GeneralMethods.GetCurrentUserInfo(School
school, InfoRequested infoRequested, Person currentUser)
at Microsoft.ClassServer.CSData.School.GetCurrentUserInfo(InfoRequested
infoRequested)
at Microsoft.ClassServer.WebParts.CSWebPart.GetCurrentUserInfo()

Sharepoint would then sometimes throw a 1000 error 10 or so minutes later -
Windows Sharepoint Services error - Faulting application w3wp.exe, version
6.0.3790.1830, stamp 42435be1, faulting module onetutil.dll, version
11.0.8000.0, stamp 43599b66, debug? 0, fault address 0x000cca39.

Sharepoint never shows any database error messages when this occurs (it does
at other times if the database goes offline), hence why I suspected potential
SQL 2005 issues.

We have subsequently found a minor fault with our cluster private switch
(SQL 2005 is hosted on a cluster) which we have replaced. We also found some
potential file corruption issues with Class Server 4 which necessitated an
uninstall and reinstall of Class Server as the configuration wizard would
error every time, so it may well be that the issue lies elsewhere. We are
currently monitoring the server for further errors.

Good to know that SQL 2005 has been tested with Class Server 4 - could find
no information regarding this anywhere.

We don't have anything like this in our database. It's clearly a database
access error of some sort, but beyond that I'm not sure what it could be. If
it still isn't working after the corrective steps you took below, you'll
probably have to open a support case so that they can get details about your
specific environment.
