Discussion:
Sharing Class Server Assignments with others

Is there some way to export / import Class Server assignments so that they
can be shared as attached files to e-mail?

How can I find communities of other teachers willing to exchange / share
Class Server assignments they've created with ones I've created?

It would be nice if we could search by subject and/or textbook and grade
level.

You can export resources from the Teacher Client by selecting them and
clicking Export. You can even multi-select and export several into one file,
but I don't recommend that, mainly because those multi-LR files won't work
in Class Server 4.0 with the SharePoint interface, or in the new SharePoint
Learning Kit. Best to export them one at a time. If you have hundreds, then
let me know and I can walk you through a more complex but less tedious
procedure for getting them out and sharable.

Regarding teachers using Class Server, this newsgroup for some reason only
seems to attract people with technical difficulties. We've never really had
a lot of teachers on here. I will forward your post to someone who may be
able to get you in touch with a teacher community. I know there are many,
and in some parts of the world, sharing resources is very common
(particularly in Australia, I'm told).

I'd also be interested in teacher community with a view to sharing
resources and knowledge. I do this for moodle and have noticed a huge
demand for the free resources created by me and others.

I am responsible for training and I can't see my staff getting on
usenet but if I could get them to use a social website / forum for
support and sharing then that would be great

Hi Darren.

The most active site Microsoft owns in the UK is www.innovativeteachers.com.
This site is well established.

There is also a fledgling community-oriented site for folks using Microsoft
education technology. You may wish to look at http://www.LearningGateway.net.
That site will collect resources that can be delivered with the new
SharePoint Learning Kit, but there are none up there yet. (I am one of the
founding members of that community). If you wanted to use this site, how
would you like to be able to search for resources once they are up there?

I had a quick skim at this and found lessons plans and the like but
nothing like interactive learning resources that would easily import
into CS / SLK. Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough so will have
another look when I get more time :-). I will also flag this site with
staff at my school.

This sounds more like what I was after. I have seen the site before and
look forward to being able to access and share resources. I will pop
over there again shortly.

As for searching ... Hmmmm. Personally I would like to tag the
resources on upload and search by keyword(s) or tag cloud. That said,
I feel less IT literate staff would make better use of a more
hierarchical structure. Something along the lines of:

Country >> Subject >> Key Stage >> Course >> Topic >> (optional sub
topic)

Some UK examples of this would be:

UK >> ICT >> Key Stage 4 >> GCSE ICT >> Networking >> Error Detection

UK >> History >> Key Stage 3 >> Year 9 >> Industrial Revolution

It would also be nice if there was an RSS feed for each part of the
hierarchical structure so departments could have a RSS web part in
their sharepoint / SLK area to keep an eye on any new resources that
pop in.

I have no idea how possible any of this would be but feel it would
certainly help to get things going.
